As the owner of on of those boats with a stick in it I can say
that I
absolutely HATE halyard noise. I do everything in my power to ensure
there is
no slapping. Fortunately our dockmaster sees it the same way (another
rag
bagger) and our marina has got to be one of the quietest is that regard.
What cannot be quieted as easily is the incessant noise of A/C overboard in
the summer. And guess where that noise comes from by and large... yep, big
powerboats with discharges about 2-3 feet off the waterline.

If never understood how the sound of splashing water could be a such a
distraction to someone who is living on a boat. Unless of course the sound was
coming from inside their boat.
