T&T: 3M 4000 UV polyether caulk sucks!

I have never used 4000 UV but had read it was best for that  application. I 
have some door windows to caulk, the glass pane against  an Al. frame, in view 
of your experience maybe I'll try household exterior door  and window caulk 
anybody try that? At home it lasts about 5 years in the  blazing Louisiana heat 
and humidity.
