T&T: Grand Bahams

I think it is doable AT HIGH TIDE. I have approx. 4 1/2' draft and went through 2 years ago on a rising tide that still had a foot to go. The marks on the post were confusing as to the colors and were wrong. If you have a chart look at the markers and see it is a straight line till you turn north when exiting the canal. Half of the markers were missing and there was a large rock underwater if you passed the marker on the wrong side. (painted wrong color or had a red reflector on it) The boat in front of me inspected the pass in their dingy and said no way! I put my dinghy in and inspected it, seen rock, looked at every chart i had and ignored the colors of the markers and it was fine. I think the canal trip was a favorite memory of Bahamas cruising. You can anchor by the bridge in a little bay. Also the tide is very late on that side of the island.

Has anyone traversed the canal that cut across Grand Bahamas Island.
What is the limiting depth on the North entrance. Could a 5 foot draft
vessel pass Through? Would high tide provide enough water for 5 foot draft.

I'd appreciate hearing from anyone who has done this as I am thinking I
might like to try if it is possible.
