T&T: Love the sound of halyards

I'm going to chime in as well. Growing up in the wooden mast era the slap of
the halyards on the mast was soft and pleasant. In my opinion the
introduction of metal masts brought with it a miserable racket. I have
always tied off the halyards with bungee cords. Perhaps cruisers should
carry a dozen and offer a couple to nearby sailing yachts with the innocent
remark, "you must have lost yours, I have these extras that will let us all
enjoy the evening's peace." Better to light a candle than to curse in the
darkness, and a very cheap solution to the problem.
