T&T: Eastern seaboard Charts on CD's

I'm sorry it took me a few day to get back on the Forums. Diana and I
are picking up an RV we just bought in Florida and are driving it back
to Minnesota.

So we've been off the grid for a couple of days ...

First of all, thanks to everyone who contacted me off-list (an on)
about the virus block and subsequent calamities involving our MTW link
in a previous post.

Secondly, we are VERY sorry to anyone who had any problems whatsoever!

I spent this morning doing some testing:

1. Our web host and server ranch is clean.

2. When I navigate DIRECTLY to our two sites (Semi-Local Publications
or Managing the Waterway), there is no problem, the connection and the
sites are clean.

- This includes Windows XP with both IE and Firefox
- This also includes Mac OSX Leopard with Safari and IE and Firefox

That's two operating systems and three browsers. I was unable to test
Vista, however, as I only have XP and Leopard when I travel.

3. When I follow the EMBEDDED Forum link in Mac OS/Safari, there is no
problem.

4. When I follow the EMBEDDED Forum link in XP and IE, I experience a
slow connect and then a cleaning (we use ESET NOD32, which is very
well known at the enterprise level and has daily updates).

So, I'm not exactly sure when or where this virus is coming from. The
bad guys are always one step ahead of the good guys and you really
have to be an expert in this particular area to comment. And that
certainly ain't me! I was a color and image processing software guy,
not a cyber terrorist. [smile]

But it would seem to be an embedded link and Forum-server generated
issue ...

Regardless, no matter how and where, Diana and I are truly sorry for
everyone's pain that got started when people just wanted to go to our
site and look at our stuff.

In the end, I think I learned something. I don't want to sound
paranoid but, for now, I guess I'm going to stop using embedded direct
links and re-type or navigate to sites another way. At least until I
learn more about this.

I've asked some of the hi-tech gunslingers I used to work with up in
Boston about this. I'll report back as I find out anything of interest.

Same happened to me yesterday when accessing managaingthewaters site
via the
embedded link contained in the post. Explorer Browser froze and
forcing a
power shutdown.
