T&T: Eberspacher dismantling help needed

Time to consult the list! I have an Eberspacher D7L (12 volt) that appears
totally dead when I try to start it. No fan, no noise at all. It had
previously been working. I decided to take the opportunity to dismantle it and
give it a good clean (there was no obvious external problem) with the hope
that I found the problem during that process. I have managed to remove the
casing. The next obvious move appeared to be to remove the six nuts that
looked as though it would allow the two major parts to be separated. Having
removed the nuts however, I can move the two pieces apart by about a quarter
of an inch (not far enough for the studs to clear the holes) before something
internal prevents any further separation. There are no more obvious things to
remove, so the question is "What have I missed?"

There must be a lot of these still out there, so hopefully there are also some
people who know how these work and how they come apart!
