T&T: A nagging question

I can't agree that this thread is as uninteresting as those that imply it is
racor'esqe.

But I certainly agree with the premise Rich started this thread with. Like
others, I have liability and self insure for my loss. As a full time livaboard
I see every day what others do to their boats. Storm prep here (FL gulf coast)
runs the gamut from extremely wel preparred to nothing. I will grant that I
know nothing of their circumstances (ill, remote, whatever) but it seems
plausible that exclusions could be made which are essentially airtight. Take
an auto for example....would a full claim be paid for a driver who didn't wear
his/her seatbelt? Maybe not if his policy mandated seatbelt usage. Never mind
if the seatbelt played a contributing factor to his injuries or not...he
ignored a tenent of the policy.....simple facts the boat owner must agree to
on the "hurricane prep plan". Ignore those facts and you lose that portion of
the claim.

Interestingly enuf I was in Dallas area on Sun after the storm passed. Met a
lady there who was up from Galveston on business. Their marina was one that
got profiled by a news chopper one night and she saw their boat ( a 2006 54'
Hatteras Sportfish) halfway submerged. I asked what they normally did for big
storms and she simply said...oh we just leave it in the marina like always.
They didn't bother going back to Galveston before it hit to secure
ANYTHING.....not their house, their boat ...nada. I must say though, she
didn't seem concerned at the loss.

Sitting in my slip with all the canvas down (cept the bimini which takes 5
minutes) until the season is over.
