"Why should an insurance company pay for any salvage or damage suffered as a
result of manifest lack of storm preparation?"
No need for a foxhole Rich,
I heartily agree, as a live aboard I stayed on my boat here during Hurricane Isabel 5 years ago. The marina I was in at the time was well protected from wave action, so I knew I would only be dealing with surge and wind. I figured being aboard to mind the lines was my best option. Two other live aboards stayed at the marina and we lost no boats in the marina, but we saved two that would have been severely damaged if not destroyed, along with any boats they may have crashed into when they broke free. These people took no precautions at all and left the boats moored very poorly. A few sailboats did lose their roller furled sails also. I have a well thought out plan to protect my boat by proper mooring at my pier up to a category 1, beyond that I have a well protected hole to take her to.
Sometimes at look at the pictures of boats in the path of these storms and wonder how many of the owners WANT to have the boat lost so they can get a check and move on? Selling in the current market is not much of an option.................
