T&T: Fw: Furuno Depthsounders redux

I hope I thanked each listee personally for his input to my fading depth 
sounder LCD display problem. First, I'm going to switch displays so I have 
the brighter one topside while I ponder my next move.

One of the recommendations was to buy a less expensive sounder and mount the 
transducer to shoot throught the hull.. That raises two questions. (1) Does 
anyone know of an inexpensive depth sounder that can use my existing Furuno 
transducer? (2) What would be the best of the lower end units to buy?
