I got rid of two 8Ds in mine. Originally there was one to start each of my 4-236 Perkins (the Starboard one was also the house bank). I now have two Grp 27s in parallel for the Port engine and 6 Golf Carts for the Starboard side (also still house bank). Works great. Compare the total amps for?one 8D vs. two Grp 31s (or even two Grp 27s) in parallel and you'll have your answer.

good article...was wondering what you think abt using a coupla grp 31`s in
paralell to replace an old 8D...(easier to handle) i use nanopulsers to keep
the plates clean, but don`t have one on the start batt, because every time
the engine is started, it shakes the plates by the surge of amps to start
the engine...at least that`s the info i`ve found...the nano pulsers were not
sposed to bother am radio, but they do! i called the manufacturers rep, and
he said they were tested, and would`nt...sent me the info, and they were
only tested on the fm band!! so when i`m up north in central bc, i
disconnect them for abt 6 wks...c
