T&T: large batteries

I'm looking for insight into large batteries for both engine starting and
house/inverter applications. I presently have 6 AGM 8D batteries, split into
three 24-volt banks (I've got Cat 3208s with 24-volt engine starters and most
accessories) on my Fleming 55. Due to the age of my present batteries (5
years) -- which are East Penn DEKA batteries with "L" or 'flag' terminals --
and problems with a couple of the batteries, I am going to replace most/all of
them. West Marine markets AGM 8D East Penn batteries, but they have
automotive-style post terminals, and I was advised to stick with the flag
terminals for fewer corrosion problems. I am having a problem finding these
batteries (other than the West Marine ones with the automotive-style posts) in
the Southern California area, and was advised to get 'Lifeline' batteries if
possible. I was also told that removing the post terminals and replacing them
with flag terminals is no big deal for a battery shop... true?
Any thoughts on pros/cons of these various suggestions?
