Umm, how do I say this? Well I'll just say it.

We pump out our holding tank when we are in large bodies of water with good
exchange to the ocean, or in the ocean itself. We NEVER pump out or
discharge overboard in areas with limited tidal exchange (even large bays
and rivers). I paid $80 for a pump out in Palm Beach, the most I've ever
paid. But to make a blanket statement you should never pump overboard is (I
believe) not realistic. There are times when your holding tank is full,
your still days away from a pump out and you have to put it someplace. Even
in the San Blas Islands where 2,000 people live on a tiny island and poop
right in the water, 2 miles away there is no evidence of any contamination.
Poop is biodegradable, it's natural, heck sometimes it's even green! I
think it's way too easy to say never do it when in fact most of the time
there is zero environmental impact.
