T&T: Dismal Swamp route

I've got to make a decision regarding the Dismal Swamp.  We are hole up in
Reedville waiting a day or two for this NE to die down, then we head south.
I've just read six or seven accounts of boats that have been through the
dismal canal since Aug, each describing bumping things more than once.
While I love a new vista as much as the other guy, I'm starting to have
second thoughts about exposing my props and fins to the deadheads.  

 

Can anyone share their opinion of taking a boat that draws 4.5 feet through
there in the next week or so?
