T&T: chrome vs. powder coating

I am not a fan of chrome plating in the marine world. It is a pain to get
repaired when it eventually deteriorates - and it WILL. By the time I
bought my 14-year old Grand Banks, a usually well-built boat, every last
vestige of the chrome over all the exterior (and some interior as well)
bronze fittings was gone. The only piece I ever bothered with re-chroming
was the center window slide bar hold-open which is right in front of me
where I cannot ignore the regular cleaning and polishing it requires.

I have an aluminum dinghy rack installed in the last year, and when it can
time to coat it before installation, I chose professional powder coating as
a good long term solution.
