Hi list

A little progress. The burner and heat exchanger have been successfully
parted (at the expense of the gasket), but I'm at a standstill again! At
present, the burner, fan, fan motor etc are still one unit. Do I need to
remove the fan and motor to release the items on the shaft in the burner or
is there some way to remove the fuel slinger (atomizer) that's presently
preventing the burner end plate from being removed? The small amount of
shaft protruding from the fan has a groove around the circumference that
looks as though it held a circlip although there is no sign of one left. The
shaft passes through a hex shaped metal insert in the plastic fan but
doesn't seem to unscrew, although the amount of force that can be applied to
try this is limited by the plastic nature of the fan. Gale pointed out the
fragility
of the coupling (there's quite a bit of backlash between
the fuel slinger at one end and the fan at the other) so you can understand
that I'm rather reluctant to proceed without confirmation of what I need to
do next!
