T&T: ICW Spots to watch out for

When people write about depths and conditions along the waterway it is usually
a direct reflection of their experience level. Our first trip up and down had
us poring over every email of depth and report of silting. Now that we have
more experience I frown to myself about the alarmist, smile at each new
cruiser's innocence discovery of Georgia's & SC tides and shallow sounds and
of NC shifting inlets where they met the ICW.

If I have anything of import to share it is this paragraph. It only takes a
cruisers normal situational awareness to negotiate any of the AICW with the
averaged draft boats. Pretty much you stay between the sticks, you stay
afloat.

Each year I hear a boat on the radio say: " I ran aground. I followed my
chart plotter and I ran aground". To them I say, Duh. They went outside of
the marked channel because they were following the chart plotter.

Keep your head outside of the boat more then on the instruments.

It makes sense to keep an eye on the tide when approaching skinny water, but
don't obsess about it simply use common sense.

There is nothing alarming about the ICW nor can you approach it frivolously.

Be safe out there my friends,
