T&T: Steadying sails

We have a GB 36 classic on which we have a steadying sail that was cut from the riding sail from our sailboat many years ago.? It is 60 sq ft? and does have an effect when travelling with a moderate to strong beam winds.? It heals the vessel slightly to leeward and slows the motion of the roll.? 
There is also the psychological effect of having a riding sail up in beam winds and seas, if you think it is helping with the comfort of the ride, your body will also think the same thing.

Another plus is when travelling at night on the Great Lakes, Gulf or Mexico or crossing the Gulf Stream we often hoist the sail as it does increase the visibility of our vessel.
