T&T: Racor drain valve versus standard ball valve

To reduce the spillage when I drain the various fuel filters, I am putting a
drain valve on all 4 of my Racor 500 filters.  Racor sells a brass valve
with plug for this application.  Cheapest price is $35.  

 

Normal brass plumbing 1/4" ball valve, nipple and plug sell for $12.  

 

What have others done for this issue?

 

Any practical reason to purchase the Racor product?
