T&T: Anchoring/Anti roll device

The thing to remember is that your boat is trying to stay flat on the water,
not neccessarily flat with the horizon. The reason bilge keels don't work is
that they actually help the boat stay flat with the water. Same thing with
devises deployed along side the boat. They may help damp the cycle, some, but
cannot stop the initial roll. If you move that same device out 15 feet you get
the boat "outa sync" with the wave, cancelling the roll to some degree,
depending on device size and distance from the boat. However, the dynamic
forces involved go up exponentially with boat size and weight and distance
from centerline. A 40 foot trawler type boat really needs the system designed
in. A 40 foot Wellcraft could well be "uncrafted" with the same system.
