T&T: OR/WA Coast in Winter

Mike Maurice, tried to send you an email off-list but your email system kept
bouncing me. Figured it might be of interest to the list anyway. Please
respond off-list if you think it's more appropriate.

My new 35' (40 LOA) Maxweld aluminum powercat is nearing completion down in
Oregon (http://www.maxweldboats.com/ - my boat is the second from the right
in the photo) and I'm hoping to get it up to Puget Sound for the winter, for
a possible spring run home to Juneau, Alaska.

Mike, my question to you - what is the feasibility of running a boat like
this up the OR/WA coast in December? I've heard enough stories about that
area to scare me. My builder is on the hook to get it up there per our
contract, but I'm not even sure it's feasible in this timeframe. This boat
isn't a 7 kts trawler - it can cruise 30 kts in protected waters, so maybe a
weather opening doesn't have to be too long. Thoughts?

As an aside, I tapped into T&T's own Arild Jensen to assist me with the
design of an enhanced electrical system for this boat since I wasn't
thrilled about the builder's rudimentary system, and I couldn't be happier!
Arild took a lot of time to understand my goals, gave me numerous practical
alternatives, developed a great design for me, and has been super with
follow up assistance. Once I take possession of the boat and get some hours
on her, I'll do a more detailed report on Arild's handiwork. For now I'll
report that he provided a great service at a reasonable price (too rare in
the boat world). If you are contemplating significant boat electrical
designs or modifications, I recommend consulting with Arild. A satisfied
customer.
