jim...were i in your shoes, i would seriously look at furuno, or comnav...i 
got rid of my benmar black box, but kept the part that turns the rudder, and 
the rest is now a cetrek from england...been 16 yrs, and so far so 
good...had a little trouble with the 12 volt reversing motor, but got that 
solved...i found the company that makes the motors, and that helps! most 
comercial boats in washington/british columbia that i talk to, use one of 
the comnav models...simrad has a good reputation, but to me seem 
expensive...c
