A couple of thoughts.

First, I didn't receive the second spam posting so it likely appears to be
but is not from the list.

Second, it needs to be understood that this is not a "moderated" list. That
implies that each and every e-mail is screened by a human being before being
released to the list. The volunteers running the list don't have the time
(that's for boating) nor inclination for that amount of control.

Third, there are a limited set of filters set up that are meant to block
previous problems. Unfortunately, this not being a perfect world they also
often hold up benign postings.

Fourth, few people realize the extent of the problem. My particular
organization has about 120,000 members. The last time I saw any figures
about 80% of the e-mails addressed to internal addresses were blocked at the
perimeter as spam. That's hundreds of thousands of e-mails rejected each day
- yet some still get through. Most spam filters are based upon blocking
previously identified signatures of spam received and reported. That always
puts the filters behind the current crop, but so far predictive filters have
proven to block too many legitimate e-mails.

So my advice is to understand and just delete the few that make their way
into the list. Life is too short and too valuable to obsess about this. And
of course my advice is worth what you paid for it ;-)

This is the second spam today that has gotten past the moderators. At times,
I have had even legitimate posts to the list held by the moderators, yet
these get through. Any idea how to stop them?

IDrive Sign up What is IDrive exactly? IDrive is an easy-to-use,
secure Online Backup application. You've got lots of files and we've got
lots of storage - it's like a match made in heaven! What does IDrive
cost? We offer 2GB of storage for FREE! That should cover most of your
important office / work files, but for all of your pictures and databases,
you should probably upgrade to 150 GB of storage for only USD 4.95 / month.
That's about the price of a latte at your favorite coffee shop. Why
should I backup my data? If you're really asking this question, you also
probably think your computer's DVD drive is a 'cup holder'. Your data is
very important and if your hard drive crashes, you could lose more than you
realize. OK, OK? but why use IDrive? Well, because traditional backup
methods are not always reliable. Here's what analyst groups like Gartner
and IDC have to say about data loss: [IMAGE] 60% of corporate data
resides on PC deskt
ops and laptops [IMAGE] 32% of data loss is due to user error
[IMAGE] 10% of laptops are stolen annually [IMAGE] 5% of laptops
suffer hardware failure annually [IMAGE] 70% of all tape restores fail
Wouldn't you be better off backing up your data online, fully protected,
encrypted and accessible from ANYWHERE? [IMAGE] IDrive [IMAGE]
