Subject: Morse Engine and Tranny Controls
After 17 years of ownership I decided to try and figure out what I could do
about one engine that would not hold a constant RPM as the trottle control
would adjust itself downward a little. This led me to the "instruction manual"
for my units. I am unable to make a "TinyURL" work but you can find the manual
as follows:
teleflexmarine.com
North America
Instruction Manuals
then under "mechanical single action" click on "S and Twin S Controls" for a
printable PDF manual
Morse is owned by Teleflex and this is the instruction brochure for the
controls on the vast majority of all Taiwan trawlers. And yes there is a screw
that adjusts the tension on the controls. It is the lower of the two screws on
the control arm. And there are a number of other adjustments possible too.
Two other interesting things:
For twin engines the brochure shows a "typical twin engine set up" with one
dual control in the middle and a single control on each side of that. Although
I don't recall ever seeing such a setup, I suspect that the outside controls
are the transmissions (which the brochure refers to as clutches).
And, the site shows that Teleflex also owns Hynautic hydraulic steering. If
you can copy down model numbers from your tank and ram you might also be able
to find manuals for them on the Teleflex web site.
