First, I must disclaim our boat has a 210 gallon holding tank,
which, combined with Vacuflush heads gives us a lot of flexibility.
But we do like to pump out frequently.
The harbors in Long Island Sound and southern New England, as well as
Boot Key Harbor in Marathon, offer a prototype for the rest of the
world. Free pump out boats, readily available. We stayed on a mooring
all summer in Westport Harbor, MA and like Boot Key, the pump out
boat came weekly whether you asked or not.
Here's a top of mind list of good pump outs further south; I track
these just like tracking good fuel stops:
Atlantic Highlands, NJ
Summitt North DE
Anchor Bay East, Dundalk (Balto) MD (a "three star" pump out,
powerful and they will take the time to do a fresh water flush too"
Atlantic Yacht Basin, Great Bridge
Northwest Creek, Fairfield harbor/New Bern NC
Southport Marina, NC (another three star)
Thunderbolt Marine, GA (Savannah)
Fernandina Beach FL
Halifax Harbor, Daytona, FL
Turnberry Isle, Aventura (N.Miami, FL) (three star)
So with a little planning, I don't see why pumping out should be a
big issue on the AICW, unless you are heavy users and have a very
small tank. Then, perhaps a Lectra san makes some sense.
Come to think of it, why don't we update this to T&T just like fuel
prices?
George
