T&T: Disposing of old fuel-was: gasoline fuel tanks

Jason:

I routinely put it into the gas tank of my car. Adding a few gallons to a
half full tank will be fine. I would not add 15 gallons to an empty tank
but as long as you blend it you and the car will not be able to tell the
difference.

You are correct that it is almost impossible to get rid of gasoline. In my
repair shop we use to let any water settle out and then filter the bad fuel
we would remove from a customers tank. Then we would use it in the parts
trucks by adding some each day. This was the only way to legally or
practically get rid of the stuff. We hated doing this but when I would see
a couple of barrels of bad gas we had to get rid of it.

The dealership put in a 2000 underground tank during the gas shortage
during the 70s. After 15 years we never used it and it took two days on the
phone to find a heating oil distributor that agreed to pump it out in the
summer when it was slow for free. I think he intended to use it in their
vehicles. It might not take two days at the current price of gas.

Good luck
