Dear list,
This is just my opinion: In my many years of being around diesels (22
+ in the navy, 7+ at nuclear power stations that had 7+ diesels each,
my own diesel boats, plus other experience) I have had only one
diesel run-on that required an emergency stop.
This was caused when a maintenance person reassembled the engine and
made a mistake.
So, I am leery into thinking that I am smarter than the manufacturer
who designed the diesel i am using.
However, I have been at sea when the diesel stopped, and there was an
absolute need to getting it going again, pronto...
So, again, just my opinion, free so therefore, may not be worth much,
I would learn to live with the engine stop peculiarities of my engine
once I was sure that was they way the manufacturer intended them to be.
In the Navy, the priorities while at sea were:
Save the ship
Save the people
Save the equipment.
The USS Thresher (SSN 593) had that priority wrong and 129 people
died. Today, on the seabed floor, the equipment remains intact.
If I had a run-on diesel while trying to cross a dangerous bar in bad
weather with people on board, I would know my priority...

....If you don't like this behavior, you need to add a relay lockout
circuit that will not allow power to be restored to the solenoid when
the "Stop" bushbutton is released...
