T&T: Boat Letters Removal

I think the oven cleaner is used to remove painted-on lettering.
For stick-on vinyl lettering, I used a razor blade thing, that you
might use to remove excess paint from a window. I used that to lift
a portion of the letter, and just pulled gently til I had the whole
letter off (or it ripped - then I started over). WD-40 is good for
removing residual adhesive, but it won't go through the vinyl letters,
so you have to start with some mechanical removal method. I don't
think I used a heat gun when removing the old lettering and
decorations, so don 't know if it would help.
Of course, if the old lettering has been on for any length of time,
the surrounding gel-coat will be faded or discoloured, so there will
still be a slight shadow of the old lettering - don't know what to do
about that (I have "shadow" honeybees on the sides of my flybridge as
a result of the previous owner's decorations.)
