T&T: Racor 200 Series Improvement

I ran a big dealership service department forever in a former life and I
always read the service bulletins. I was always amazed at how the people
who write these things could put a positive spin on what they were doing.
For instance if they had a huge failure rate on this particular part they
would fix the problem and then announce an improved part without ever
getting into the failures. It was just like they were sitting around one
day and decided to improve this part for no particular reason. I realize
that they always have to look behind their back for a predatory attorney
but there is an art to writing these things.

I was looking for a spacer for my Racor 500, since my new replacement
filters did not have them. I ran across this bulletin announcing a
"Checkball material upgrade" for the 200 series filters like the one on my
Onan generator. If you read the fine print it lists the good properties of
the new and old checkballs. One interesting fact that according to their
chart the existing checkball is not recommended for biodiesel. The old one
does not do so well with Ozone Resistance?, Heat Aging and Fuel swelling.

The replacement Kit is part number RK24008 and it is now on my shopping
list. This change is effective June 2008 so this kit is probably not yet
available. Here is a link to the bulletin.
