Depends on the boat, and where and how you tie up.

I've seen a suggestion that the bow (and spring if possible) should be
short enough that they can't reach the propeller.

On my 31 ft boat, I usually just use three lines while cruising - bow
and spring are 25 ft, and the stern line is 10 ft.  Here in the PNW,
we tie alongside floats that usually have a rail to tie to.  In areas
where you have to pass lines around pilings, you may need longer
lines.
