SNIP>>>: I want to put a muffin fan in my Norcold 110V/12V refrig/freezer
to keep the lower portion of the refrig cooler....Is there a way to wire a 12
V fan to work? Jim Cobb
The muffin fan is a very valuable addition. Rather than mess with the Norcold
wiring you can simply tap into the 12 volt wire coming into the back of the
fridge. This means that the fan runs whenever there is 12 volt or 110 volt
power to the fridge (assuming you leave both breakers on) but we consider that
a good thing. Since you are mostly on 110 volt there is no downside re battery
draw. At anchor the muffin fan draws so little juice we don't worry about it.
The fan made a big difference in the running time of our Norcold but that is
in large part because our Norcold installation has very poor air circulation.
BUT remember this: As stated many times on this list the most important thing
if you are running on 12 volt is to install heavier wiring. That also made a
significant difference. As info our Norcold is now 17 years old and still
going strong despite 3500 hours on the Lehmans.
