I did the exact same thing on my single belt T-6354 Perkins at a local auto
electric shop in my home town.  After burning through two belts on both
engines. I changed to Kevlar belts and have not had any more trouble in over
two years.  This has really worked great for me and I'm glad I did it.  The
alts put out a lot more heat and I keep them blown out with a compressor I
have in engine room.  When I first did it the dust from the rapidly
disintegrating belts clogged up the alts so watch for that.

Just my personal experience. YMMV.
