T&T: alternator rebuild

Recently I took an alternator in for a rebuild and asked about taking it in on
trade for a bigger alternator. I had a plain stock 55 amp alternator and the
shop said they could beef it up by replacing the stator, windings and
regulator and get it up to 125 amps. My question is have any of you heard of
this or tried it before.
