T&T: Velvet Drive Shifting/Slamming sounds

Hi Pete,

I also have the 72C transmissions on my twin 160HP Perkins.  I usually shift 
at about 850 to 900 RPM, as this is needed (for example in locking) to have 
decent control.  They do not make any slamming noise, so I wonder if you 
could perhaps have a look at your damper plate.  Maybe the springs are shot, 
and the transmission is being driven by the failsafe design which gives you 
metal on metal.

Just a thought, as anywhere below 1000 RPM my shifts are noise and clunk 
free.
