T&T: Bowline vs spliced loop

For many moons, I put beautiful eye splices in the ends of all my dock
lines, thinking that they were "yachty" and convenient. As time went on, I
found that it was very handy to be able to adjust the lines at either end,
so now I just have "yachty" and practical double sewn servings at both ends
of the lines. If I still want a loop, it takes seconds to tie a bowline
whatever size I want. I have never heard of a dock line failing at a
bowline. They usually fail at another chafe point.
