Karen Seigel's dog training memo, while well intentioned, doesn't begin to
cover "real" dogs...only pushovers!!!...those with small spines!!! Mats...Ha!
I read Karen's material to my Yorkie, Naty, and she fell asleep.... proof
that it doesn't work!
Real men take their dogs into the beach in the rain and sleet and snow!! or is
that to pick up the mail...in any case, a real boat dog will not cowtow to
namby pamby rules! Others may feel sorry for you and offer a drink (I am still
hoping!!)
I gave up trying to get Naty to do her business on the boat..she outfoxed
me..and I'm glad she did because that's where I have met so many nice people
while cruising...walking THEIR dogs whom they couldn't train!!!! It's a
natural ice breaker....
I had a lot more fun training Naty to barrel pell mell up the catwalks barking
when any other boat ventured too close or too fast while we are at
anchor...never slowed anybody down but they sure laughed at Nat's heroic
efforts....all I have to say is "Go get em!!" and she is on her way in hot
pursuit.
Our best beach encounter: Naty down the beach in the lead, me puffing a
hundred feet back.... three huge black labs bounding towards her....then her
in hot pursuit as the labs tore back down the beach trying to get away!!!
Mattituck Beach, LI...
Turned out a local Chiwawa often nipped their hind legs so they were afraid of
little dogs....I had to apologize to the owner...
Sorry for the long post, slow day I guess....hope this gets posted where I
aimed....
