T&T: <Trawlers versus motor yachts

I have a Krogen and she's a semi-displacement hull! Only 1 of 12 ever made
it's a Krogen Silhouette. She will cruise very nicely and economically at 8
knots. However it will get up and go 20 knots if we need her to. She has 306
HP Volvo's powering her and we love having the best of both worlds!

42 Krogen Silhouette

SNIPO:
To my knowledge, all Marine Traders, Grand Banks, Albins, Defevers,
Selenes, Jeffersons, Flemings, Mainship, Ocean Alex, Nordic tugs, and
almost all Cheoy Lees are planing hulls....which has gotta outnumber the
Krogens, Nordhavns, Willards and Hatteras LRCs.

REPLY:
Bob, the question therefore is are semi-displacement hulls actually
planing hulls or are they half way in between? I know most of the boats
you mention are not full displacement. But are not Selenes, Defevers, and
most Marine Traders essentially full displacement hulls? I have a friend
with a 43 Albin which even with twin 240 Volvos will not do more than
about 9 knots.
