There are essentially there basic types of hulls found on recreational power
craft: Planning, Semi-displacement/planning, and displacement. To my
knowledge, all Marine Traders, Grand Banks, Albins, Selenes, Jeffersons,
Flemings, Mainship, Ocean Alex, Nordic tugs, and almost all Cheoy Lees are
semi-displacment/planning hulls- as is my President 35 Sundeck with twin
diesels that operates very nicely at a displacement speed of 7.5 knots and
can only get up to about 10 knots on a semi-plane when need be.

True planning hulls are found on the go fast boats, sport fishers, and the
Sea Ray type cruisers.

Nordhavns, Willards and Hatteras LRCs.

REPLY:
Bob, the question therefore is are semi-displacement hulls actually planing
hulls or are they half way in between? I know most of the boats you mention
are not full displacement. But are not Selenes, Defevers, and most Marine
Traders essentially full displacement hulls? I have a friend with a 43 Albin
which even with twin 240 Volvos will not do more than about 9 knots.
