T&T: anchor pad eye

Nordhavn had a few pictures as this fitting was a NAR requirement. Basically
there are two types. One is a stainless steel eye on a rod with threads
towards the end of the rod. Although they come with fender washers and a
nut, it is wise to fabricate (cut and bend) a SS plate to conform to the
interior of the bow at the stem. You bed it with 5200.
The other thing one sees is an exterior SS plate bent to fit the bow with a
welded eye as part of the plate. The whole fabrication is highly polished
which is good to assure pacification. There are numerous bolts penetrating
the hull to hold it in place. I strongly suspect that there is a matching,
but larger plate on the interior with everything bedded in 5200. The bolts
must be high grade SS with strike marks on the bolt heads.
I believe the first method is adequate for anchoring, assuming that your bow
stem is a thick and strong lay-up.
The second method is probably stronger, assuming excellent fabrication
techniques using 316L SS, and proper installation. It is suited for
anchoring and emergency towing in extreme weather.
If you are not crossing the ocean, the first method is cheaper and plenty
strong with fewer hull penetrations.

Subject: GL: anchor pad eye
| Does anyone have a pictuyre and specs for an anchor pad eye they have on
their boat.? We have a 52 RPH trawler and want to add one to lower the
amount of scope we have to put out when anchoring.
