Pascal's idea of  a weep hole is an excellent one. You'll recall I had some 
problems with this pump and Shurflo made good on it. Once, I'd given a pump 
with a failed diaphragm to a friend who used the motor to power the 
autopilot on his sailboat. Shurflo sent me a new pump no questions asked.

Two caveats: (1) install a check valve between the cold water feed and the 
water heater. The diaphragm is not designed as an expansion tank, and (2) do 
not install an expansion tank with this pump.
