It won't last. In the last 30-40 years, everytime gas went up, people did
panic for a few weeks, then got back to their habits. Eventually, they were
cutting something else in the budget but they never cut gas, which is one of
the first goals of life for a yound adult and means "freedom" from the time
we were kids. 

You don't change the mentality of a whole civilization that fast.


Look what happened in Europe, where gas has been expensive for years : more
people have cars than ever, and they travel more. They just adjusted the
size of their cars.
