Time to revisit Gulf Coast Filters: http://www.gulfcoastfilters.com/ Check
out the Kenworth truck with over 100,000 and no oil change. Tore the engine
down and pulled a piston. Cylinder, piston and rings were still at new spec.
I have installed an O-1 for my mains and genset. Summer project is to plumb
them in. Portable Oil Analyzers and instant oil checks are a great help.
On a slightly different note, an oil analysis program is a good idea. Say,
annually. But. What if you get a coolant leak right after your test results
came back? Uh, oh. So, while it doesn't give as complete a readout as a
"real" analysis, it hits the major problems and you can do it monthly or
weekly.
