T&T: Newbie

HI, 
I have just signed on to the line and have no experience with power boats but for suffering the occasional wake on my sail boat.

I plan on buying a trawler in the near future either new or used but do not know what  models around 40 ft are suitable for cruising the Caribbean or say a run to Bermuda,.I was wondering if this forum imparts that kind of advice or can point me to suitable resources.
