I know there are some states that will let you register your boat in their
state without paying sales or use tax. If you are going to own your boat a
short while before moving it to Texas, you can register in another state
first. Then there is a clause (or at least there was) in the Texas law that
says that if you are "moving" from another state, and the boat is registered
in another state, you don't have to pay the Texas sales tax to register
there. Worth looking into as the 6% or so of sales tax is a pretty good
wollop.
