Joe,
You will be able to tell if the wooden boat was looked after or not
right away.
- The topside structure of the GB's is plywood that and looks like
total crap if it is not taken care of, i.e.. Painted on a regular
schedule.
- The teak decks are usually sanded way too much. Look for old and
cracked sealant between the teak pieces. If its cracked, you have lots
of leakage and probably rot in the plywood underneath.
- Check for excessive rain water leak marks throughout the cabins. If
you see the tell tail sings, then its common throughout and you have
rot.
Only after that would I engage a professional to gauge the rest of its
structural integrity.

Can someone tell me what to look for and what not to look for in a
wooden hulled boat? I can handle about 75% of the work necessary on a
boat but I don't want to mess with the hull or the decks. My Nauticat
had a 135 Lehman so I am very familiar with these engines (and like them
very much). Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Joe Berini
