T&T: Low boat speed = low power

Capt sterling, you said it yourself. They are IN the water and not on the
water. They ARE displacement hulls. But they are a different animal as Mike
stated. There are catamarans with displacement hulls that do planing speeds
without ever planing????? Figger that one out.

A pontoon boat is a special case and and does not fit the equations for
typical cruisers.

Mike

well, point is, at real slow speed, (which I should have mentioned, we
cruise at 2 to 4 mph max.) the only difference is how long the hull takes to
get
to that speed. No difference in throttle. I can tell when we reach speed by
the

difference in the water coming off the prop. It no longer curls up by the
hull, aft.

Granted these are not displacement hulls, however, they are 38 feet long,
they are "in" the water, not on it. Not planning or trying to.

Of course wind and current effect this, but we have virtually no current,
and here in the summer, pretty much light winds.

I stand by my Postulate!
The only energy difference I can see is on the initial start of movement,
and on how long it take to get to that speed.

See you on the Waterways!
