I've been resiting jumping in but what the heck. I have a 1973 43 hatt
double cabin. It has a pair of 6-71 n rated at 310 hp boat weight is #36,000
pounds. She'll cruise quite nicely in almost any seas at around 13 kts. (the
boat not the crew). At my 13 kts. I get around .6 (thats point 6) nmg. When
I went to the keys we mostly ran at around 7-8 mph inside. At that reduced
"hull" speed that yields me around 2 mpg. The engines are up to temp and the
captain and crew enjoy the view. Perhaps with more power allowing the hull
to get out of the water better the cruise would both be faster and more
economical, but who cares I run slow, enjoy the scenery, and save quite a
bit of fuel. Yes she's just planning but just barely. Bill
