T&T: LED Overhead Lighting?

I've been doing the same on my boat. Using the Sailor Solutions bulbs
for the past 2 years. They are very bright. When I tell people that they
are LED's, no one believes me till I flip up the lamp to show the
circuitry. The owner happens to live in my town and the latest batch
have a nicer color tone, and are even brighter. No doubt that they are
expensive though.

Subject: T&T: LED Overhead Lighting?

Kevin,
We've been replacing our incandescent bulbs with LEDS over the past
couple of years. I replaced about 14 feet of track lighting with LED
strings quite easily and satisfactorily. I've replaced a number of G-4
bulbs in fixtures in the galley and dinette overhead. I haven't been
completely happy with the result, in that I got 'warm' light LED bulbs
and they aren't as bright we would prefer, but they are adequate. Early
on, I purchased a couple of the stark white light LEDS and they take
some getting used to. Sailors' Solutions is promoting some bulbs,
Sensibulb, as brighter and we will give those a try.
They're not cheap when you need a lot of them. Incidently, we also
replaced our conventional anchor light with an LED and it's great. We
also purchased an LED BBQ grill light -- battery powered with a clamp --
that Kate uses as a reading light in the cockpit, for extra light in the
salon, and in the berth.
I've clamped it in a couple of dark corners in the engine room where
I've needed more light. It has run forever on the D cells. We have cut
the load on our house bank SUBSTANTIALLY by these conversions. I've left
a couple of the original lamps, in the head and over the V-berth, alone
as they are on only briefly unlike the other lights. Next on the list
are the cockpit lights. A web search will pull up several suppliers of
bulbs. I think most if not all typical marine fixture bulbs have LED
replacements now.
