T&T: Another refrigerator myth

Just when you think it is all figured out, some fool comes along with
another myth to ruin your day. Now for all the speed readers out there who
will tell me all I need to know about a compressor-driven reefer, this myth
applies to absorption cycle (read ammonia as coolant and NO compressor)
reefers powered by heat from a propane flame or from an electric coil.
Myth: If you leave an ammonia solution cooled reefer shut down for a
prolonged period, something (I know not what) happens to the ammonia
solution which will hinder or stop the cooling process of the reefer.
Further to the myth, a friend of a friend had to wait for 1.5 days before
his reefer would adequately cool after a long period of shut-down.
The book on my Dometic absorption cooled unit speaks about leaving it off
for weeks at a time but mentions nothing about longer periods of time. I
have emailed Dometic for any information they may have on this myth.
Anybody have any experience along these lines?
