T&T: Boat on wheels

A few minutes ago, I was reading an add on BST, and I noted this : "2.5
nautical miles per gallon. Very efficient indeed."
Almost any big truck on the road will give 6-8 miles per gallon, if not
better.
So my question is : what about if a boat was on floating wheels ? Is there
any research in the world trying to build another way to look at boats,
something different than a hull digging a hole in the water ?
I'm not searching for anything in particular, just curious of different
avenues.
I've been also wondering for example if there was such a thing like a 40 ft
zodiac trawler type. Something easy to deflate, put on a trailer and move
somewhere else behind a pick-up truck. I know a few kayaks made from tubes
and kevlar enveloppe. It would be fun to arrive somewhere and inflate a big
boat, including the bed and the toilet...
