T&T: Hull speed theoreticall

Waves will slow you down as well. And a lot of this is just personal
preference and what kind of boat you have. Do you want a boat that requires
all 100% power just to get to hull speed? We all know going hull speed is not
the most efficient speed so why would you want to go at such a non-efficient
speed???....that is a rhetorical question because many times I would want to
go hull speed and maybe a bit faster... In a displacement hull, I personally,
would want a boat that would achieve hull speed with 70% of it's rated
continuous power. That way I can run all day at hullspeed if I want and not
tax the engine(s). If I want to slow down to the almighty perfect speed that
only trawlers should travel at(as deemed by all trawler authorities) then I
can just crack the throttle back a little bit. I also don't want to be put in
a situation where I feel like I am taxing the engine just to get to my
"normal" cruising speed. It probably won't hurt
the engine one bit but I don't like the feeling of pushing the power up past
the normal comfort zone(y'all know what I am talking about). I guess I have
strayed a bit from theory and injected a little reality....how dare
me!!!!....:-)

Trawler on,
John
